Cook
Bay is to the North of Possession Bay. The latter has the unenviable reputation
of being the windiest spot in South Georgia - which is saying a lot - and certainly, on the day
on which Badger
crossed its mouth, the wind was blowing hard from the glacier at the
head of the bay, while until then, the wind experienced had been F3
from NNE.
Possession Bay was named by Captain Cook in 1775, when he
made the first landing on South Georgia.
